About us

ABOUT HDC

Human Development Concern (HDC) was established in 2005 as a humanitarian organization dedicated to saving lives and relieving suffering through health care, relief and development programs

The organization is registered as a non-profit organization with the national and regional governments in South Central Somalia. We have a long outstanding track record and a rich experience on youth , women, children and marginalized community members through selfless service since the organisation was established. Over the years, we have played pivotal role making significant milestones despite the complex culture and challenges inherent in Somalia and provide a safe and conducive environment for humanitarian actions

After the experience of civil war which occurred in 1992, public institutional structures for services had been destroyed hindering access to services especially through the government. The situation was exacerbated by the cyclical clan conflicts, insecurity and emergencies from drought and flood effects that led to frequent displacements of thousands of populations being affected. The absence of services resulted in poor indicators in health, nutrition, water sanitation and hygiene, protection, and livelihood leading to high demand for humanitarian assistance. The need for lifesaving assistance because of increase in mortalities and morbidities led to founding of HDC in 2005 by a volunteer social workers who had made an instrumental effort to helping the most vulnerable populations access essential services.

Our aspiration is driven by devotion and values mirrored in our work. Our help touches hundreds of thousands of populations who are living in crisis and emergencies in humanitarian settings.

In us lies a great responsibility to give hope to vulnerable young  whose tomorrow depends on our assistance now, pregnant women whose lives lies on our skilled resources to help them deliver and keep them safe from preventable maternal deaths, women and girls of reproductive age in need lifesaving services

To provide humanitarian assistance to people in need, create space for human rights and freedoms, foster social and economic prosperity and good governance to improve livelihoods and human dignity.
